Why I’m Running
I am running for re-election of the West Contra Costa Board of Education Area 4 because I have been a public-school teacher, I am a labor leader and a passionate advocate for kids. I have spent many years learning, listening, and working in our public schools. I know first-hand that we must increase academic achievement for all students, especially now in an online learning environment, where accessibility and inadequate resources pose more equity challenges than ever.
I believe that we must do more. As a trustee, I will work to:
-
RETAIN AND RECRUIT QUALITY EDUCATORS,
-
IMPROVE TRANSPARENCY AND ACCOUNTABILITY of all district funds
-
KEEP STUDENTS SAFE in our schools by implementing our POSITIVE SCHOOL CLIMATE policy,
-
Advocate for additional FUNDING FOR SCHOOLS,
-
Engage and INCLUDE PARENTS into decisions made, and
-
Fully support all of our students.
I am a first-generation American, California public school graduate, raised in a hardworking immigrant union family, and a bilingual teacher (also married to a teacher}. I have personally witnessed the problems with our system, especially how we invest in our African American students and English Language Learners. I will fight to provide the tools, resources, and funding needed for all students to succeed. By bringing parents, teachers, our cities, community members, and public and non-profit service providers together, we can build a positive future for our school district.
